Protests erupt for Inter student’s suspicious death’ judicial inquiry sought

Patna: Locals and family members on Friday staged a protest in Phulwarisharif, blocking the Patna-Aurangabad road near the AIIMS roundabout to demand justice in the suspicious death of an Intermediate student who fell from the fourth floor of a coaching centre on Feb 12.

Led by former MLA Gopal Ravidas, protesters termed the incident murder, raised slogans seeking immediate arrests and demanded a judicial inquiry. The blockade lasted several hours, disrupting traffic.


Sub-divisional police officer I Sushil Kumar and Phulwarisharif police station officer Gulam Shahbaz Alam reached the spot with a police team and persuaded protesters to disperse, assuring them that the investigation was under way.

The student died on Thursday morning after falling from the building. Family members alleged foul play, citing injury marks and movements seen in CCTV footage. Police detained three persons, including two carpenters visible on the upper floor in CCTV footage and the building guard. A special investigation team (SIT) was formed. Post-mortem was conducted at All India Institute of Medical Sciences (AIIMS) Patna. Forensic Science Laboratory (FSL) and dog squad teams were involved.

City superintendent of police (west) Bhanu Pratap Singh said the case was registered on the family’s statement. “They raised suspicion about a youth. The SIT team was probing the case from all angles. The CCTV footage is being scrutinised. It was not clear whether someone pushed her or she jumped on her own,” he said, assuring the case would be solved soon.

Member of Parliament from Purnia Pappu Yadav, released from Beur Central Jail on Friday, visited the family and wrote on X: “The fight for justice will continue. Right now, I am leaving Beur jail and heading to Phulwari where a daughter, a student, was thrown from the roof of a coaching centre and murdered! We will fight strongly for their justice (sic).”
