Protest stalls PUSU oath-taking, only two sworn-in
Patna: The oath-taking ceremony of the newly elected Patna University Students Union (PUSU) on Monday was disrupted after a section of students, alleging irregularities in the Feb 28 elections, protested and locked the Jaya Prakash Narayan Senate Hall. It forced the university to administer oath to only a few office-bearers in the vice-chancellor’s chamber.PU vice-chancellor Namita Singh administered the oath of office to newly elected president Shantanu Shekhar and vice-president Sifat Faiz in her office chamber. Three other key office-bearers, namely general secretary, joint secretary and treasurer could not take oath. Only six out of 24 newly elected council members were administered the oath of office. They included Indrajit Kumar, Arush Aryan, Saurabh Narain Singh, Nikki Kumar, D K Pratap and Mohammad Ehsanullah.The university officials, including registrar, proctor, students’ welfare dean, and chief returning officer had turned up at the oath taking ceremony.
