PATNA: The Bihar police felled two notorious criminals, Kapil Yadav and Chhabila Nonia, in separate encounters in Nalanda and Patna districts late on Monday night.
Chhabila was shot dead in Nayanchak locality under the Khagaul police station on the outskirts of Patna. Khagaul ps officer-in-charge K Chandra said that acting on tip-off the police reached Nayanchak to find some criminals looting passengers of a Tata Sumo vehicle.
On seeing the police, the criminals took position behind the vehicle and opened fire. "We retaliated and killed one of them, who was later identified as Chhabila," Chandra, known as an "encounter inspector", said.
Chhabila, the police said, had been collecting extortion money from businessmen of Khagaul, Phulwari, Danapur and Naubatpur areas. He was also involved in the dacoity in a college teacher''s house in Khagaul.
