Police raid premises of JD(U) MLA in land-grabbing case
Patna: Gopalganj police on Monday conducted raids at the ancestral village of JD(U) MLA Amarendra Kumar, also known as Pappu Pandey, in connection with a land-grabbing case. Police have obtained a non-bailable warrant against the MLA, his brother Satish Pandey and a chartered accountant in the case.
The accused are alleged to have attempted to seize 16 acres and 93 decimals of land in Belwa village using forged documents. Police raided the MLA’s ancestral village, Naya Gaon Tulsia, and a fuel station in Hathua linked to him but could not locate him. Gopalganj SP Vinay Tiwari has formed two teams to trace the accused.
Police teams began raids early in the morning. At around 6am, a team reached the ancestral village and conducted searches for nearly two hours. At about 8am, the team moved to the fuel station in Hathua and continued the operation. Raids were also conducted in Motihari in East Champaran.
“Two police teams have been deployed to arrest the MLA and his brother. However, as police action intensified, both MLA Amrendra and his brother Satish went absconding. The case relates to allegations of forcibly occupying land using fake documents. An FIR was already registered at Kuchaikote police station,” Tiwari said.
Police said the complaint was filed on April 1 by a resident of Semrao village under Mirganj police station. The complainant alleged that Kiran Sinha owns the land and that men linked to the MLA broke the locks of five rooms and replaced them. He also alleged firing with intent to kill, after which the victim informed police.
Police reached the spot and detained some accused while others fled. Four people have been arrested so far. The court issued non-bailable warrants on Saturday after police submitted an absconding report.
According to his affidavit, the MLA has declared assets worth around Rs 5 crore. He and his wife Ranju Pandey are partners in a construction company. He owns movable assets worth about Rs 3 crore and immovable assets worth Rs 2 crore, while his wife owns movable assets worth Rs 41 lakh and immovable assets worth Rs 1 crore. He has Rs 9 lakh in cash and his wife Rs 4 lakh. He also owns commercial property worth Rs 1 crore, while his wife owns property worth Rs 1 crore.
Pandey owns land at multiple locations in Gopalganj and has six vehicles and a tanker. He has been named in 14 criminal cases, including serious charges, with several cases pending in court. His brother has also been linked to criminal cases and is out on bail.
