GAYA/MUZAFFARPUR: Gaya SSP Vinay Kumar on Monday ordered a probe into charges of molestation levelled against JP University’s officiating VC Dinesh Prasad Sinha by folk singer Devi.
The inquiry was ordered on the basis of a complaint faxed to the SSP by the singer. It alleged that Sinha indulged in obscene behaviour with her during a performance at a marriage reception at a Bodh Gaya resort.
SSP Kumar said IPS probationer Babu Ram has been asked to make the preliminary inquiry into the allegations.

A case under relevant Sections of the Indian Penal Code would be registered against the officiating VC if the charges are found prima facie true, the SSP said.
Sinha did not respond to the repeated calls made by TOI for his version. Considered close to controversial former minister Surendra Prasad Yadav, Sinha unsuccessfully contested the Ghosi assembly seat as the RJD candidate in the bypoll held in 2009. Subsequently, he was appointed pro-VC of JP varsity. After R P Sharma completed his term as the university’s VC, Sinha was appointed the officiating VC.
Talking to newsmen at Muzaffarpur on Monday, Devi alleged that Sinha and Gaya MLA Surendra Prasad Yadav misbehaved with her and even tried to touch her at the music programme around 2 am on Sunday.
Devi said the music programme on Saturday night was about to end a couple of hours after midnight when Sinha and Yadav reached the dais with their bodyguards and supporters. They asked her to continue singing and she even agreed to oblige them. But Sinha took the mike and started using filthy language. “I slapped Sinha on his cheek when he tried to touch me,” she said outside the residence of Muzaffarpur IG Gupteshwar Pandey.
The singer said she had come to meet the IG and lodge a complaint against Sinha as Chhapra falls under Muzaffarpur police zone. “I have already informed the Gaya SP,” she added.
Reacting to a reported version of Sinha that he was not at the music programme, Devi claimed he was lying. She admitted her father is a teacher in a college under JP varsity but asserted that this should not be linked with her complaint. “If there is any allegation against my father, it should be probed. But the fact is that my parents have nothing to do with what happened at Gaya,” she said.
