Police inaction worries Dalsingsarai residents

Samastipur: The Dalsingsarai police have failed to make any breakthrough in two separate cases of dacoity and loot on April 12, giving an impression that criminals are having a field day in the subdivisional town of Samastipur district.
People of the town are living in fear as police have failed to improve the deteriorating law and order situation, said retired professor Pramod Sharma on Monday.Local businessman Nawal Kishore Jha nodded.
According to the residents, police have failed to take any action against the criminals who looted cash and jewellery worth Rs5 lakh from the house of retired school principal Urmila Choudhary in Adarshnagar locality on April 12 night.
The same day, one Pankaj Kumar was relieved of his belongings. Earlier, on April 6, criminals looted cash and ornaments worth over Rs16 lakh from the house of Kamlesh Kumar in Keota village. In a separate incident, criminals looted Rs1.51 lakh from one Rakesh Kumar in the town on April 3. Police are still groping in the dark in all these cases, a Dalsingsarai resident said.
The inefficiency of police can be gauged from the fact that without proper verification, a beheaded body recovered from Bhamrupur village, was handed over to the relatives of Jagdish Sahni. His relatives at Korbadha village consigned the body to flames believing that it was Jagdish’s mortal remains. Later, Jagdish was found in police custody. He was allegedly arrested by Dalsingsarai police with a stolen bicycle parked outside the SBI Dalsingsarai branch on April 12.
“When police handed over the beheaded body, Jagdish’s wife lodged an FIR against six persons, including three sons of a former minister, accusing them of killing her husband,” said a source.
Samastipur SP Nawal Kishore Singh, who visited Choudhary’s house in Adarshnagar on Monday, said police were working on all cases and criminals would be arrested soon.
However, Ranjit Sahu of BJP, who has been leading an agitation against the deteriorating law and order situation in Dalsingsarai, threatened to intensify his stir. “We will not keep quiet and take to the streets if police fail to arrest the criminals within two days,” he said.
