Police driver held for taking Rs12k as bribe in Jamui district
Patna: The Special Vigilance Unit (SVU) on Tuesday arrested a police driver constable in Jamui for allegedly accepting a bribe of Rs 12,000 to allow sand-laden tractors to operate.
SVU additional director general Pankaj Kumar Darad identified the accused as Jitendra Kumar, a driver constable posted at Jhajha police station.
According to the SVU, a tractor owner from Chitochak village in Jhajha lodged a complaint alleging that Jhajha SHO Lal Bahadur Singh and his driver demanded Rs 3,000 per tractor per day to permit sand transportation. The complainant, who owns three tractors, was allegedly asked to pay Rs 12,000 daily.
The complaint was verified by the SVU. During verification, Jitendra Kumar allegedly told the complainant, “Pay Rs 3,000 per vehicle as bribe, then we will let your vehicles run.”
He further claimed the money was meant for the SHO and there was no need to meet him directly. “The SHO has said give Rs 3,000 per vehicle per day and run the tractors,” Jitendra allegedly said.
Based on the findings, the SVU registered a case against SHO Lal Bahadur Singh and Jitendra Kumar under the Prevention of Corruption Act and the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita.
A team led by DSP Krishna Kumar Gupta arrested Jitendra red-handed while allegedly accepting Rs 12,000 near Durga Chowk, close to Jhajha police station.
