PATNA: The Patna high court on Wednesday directed the Patna Municipal Corporation (PMC) to hold across the table deliberations with the persons running a slaughter house at Shahganj in Patna City, and other persons linked with it, on the modalities of shifting of the slaughter house from the densely residential area.
A division bench comprising Chief Justice Rekha Manharlal Doshit and Justice Jyoti Saran issued the directive while hearing a PIL of one Chandrashekhar seeking shifting of the slaughter house from the residential locality, stating it caused environmental problems in the area.

Earlier, the high court had recently directed the PMC for stopping slaughter of animals in the slaughter house.
On Wednesday, the court directed the slaughter house be shifted from the locality to a place provided by the government. The court maintained that the slaughter house should be run under shade and away from the view of people.
The court accepted the plea of the petitioner that slaughter house should be covered as vultures were attracted to an open slaughter house and dropped the wastes of the slaughter house in the adjacent areas causing environment problem. Standing counsel Maheshwardhar Dwivedi and his junior Sourendra Upadhyaya submitted that a plot near Gun Sagar pond in Patna City was available for shifting the slaughter house.
