PATNA: Patna Municipal Corporation (PMC) has initiated a monthlong campaign, 'Swachchha Patna', to make Patna cleaner. The campaign was launched on Friday in the New Capital circle.
New Capital circle executive officer Vishal Anand told TOI, "Day 1 of the campaign was a bit slow due to the rain. The scenario will improve as days pass. We are sure of achieving our goal of cleaner Patna to a great extent by August 15."
The campaign focuses on street lights, encroachment, ?khatals' and cleanliness.
On Day 1 of the campaign, the PMC officials launched an anti-encroachment drive in the areas around Patna zoo and Mahavir Temple near Patna Junction.
The officials also removed ?khatals' from areas near Ravi Chowk at Shastri Nagar. "We also seized three cows from these areas. The people protested against it and pelted us with stones. But we remained unfazed," said Vishal Anand.
The PMC also aims to illuminate all major roads such as Fraser Road, Bailey Road, Hardinge Road and Mangles Road by August 15. To reduce the quantity of visible garbage on the roads, the PMC will install more dustbins in different areas. "We have got extra vehicles such as JCB and mini trucks and tractors to remove the debris of buildings and garbage from the streets," Anand said.
