PM Modi to flag off eastern India’s first Namo Bharat train from Madhubani
Patna: Eastern India's first semi-high speed Namo Bharat rapid train, known for its faster inter-district services, will be flagged of by Prime Minister Narendra Modi on April 24 from Madhubani, where he will attend a major function of panchayati raj ministry.
Subsequently, the fully air-conditioned train will connect Patna and Jayanagar, via Sakri, Darbhanga, Barauni, Mokama and Bakhtiyarpur, marking Bihar's entry into the elite club of states hosting India's next-generation rapid rail system, sources said.
According to Samastipur divisional railway manager (DRM) Vinay Srivastava, Namo Bharat is capable of reaching a speed of up to 160kmph and is expected to slash the current travel time between Jayanagar and Patna, which is normally five to six hours. The train boasts modern amenities including automatic doors, high-speed wifi, CCTV camera surveillance and dedicated business-class seating. In a move aimed at inclusivity and safety, one coach has been reserved exclusively for women, he said.
"The train is being hailed as a symbol of progress and infrastructure development for Bihar. With improved safety measures and state-of-the-art facilities, the new service is expected to significantly benefit daily commuters, businessmen and tourists alike," he said, adding the Namo Bharat train is not just about speed, but also about bringing world-class transit solutions to the heartland.
