Peaceful coexistence key to social harmony: Governor
Araria: Governor Arif Mohammed Khan while addressing a Sheerat conference here on Saturday stressed the need for peaceful coexistence and correct understanding of religious teachings.
The programme was organised by COPS, India (Centre for Peace and Objective Studies). A large number of Islamic scholars, clerics, students, and intellectuals from different parts of the district as well as neighbouring districts of Uttar Pradesh participated in the programme.
Speaking on the theme “The Prophet’s model and our life,” the Governor elaborated on the scientific and practical aspects of the holy Quran and the life of Prophet Muhammad, holding the audience’s attention throughout his address. He said the teachings of the Quran promote harmony, compassion, and mutual respect. He cautioned against misinterpretations that spread hatred and social discord.
Explaining the meaning of “Sheerat,” the governor described it as a way of life that does not hurt the faith or beliefs of others. He appealed to people, especially the youth, to remain calm and sensible and not fall prey to provocation or retaliatory anger created by disruptive elements.
During the question-and-answer session, the governor patiently responded to queries raised by local scholars and participants. Quoting from the Quran, historical records, and classical literature, he explained the original and true meaning of the term “Jihad”, and highlighted how the concept has been distorted in present times. His explanations were widely appreciated by the audience.
Earlier, Maulana AHM Daniyal, president of COPS, India and a noted Islamic scholar, welcomed the governor and addressed the gathering. He cited verses from the Quran and incidents from the life of the Prophet, underlining their relevance in today’s society and stating that these teachings would continue to guide humanity in the future.
The conference concluded with a message of peace, mutual respect, and social harmony.
