PATNA: Patna University (PU) academics on Saturday unequivocally criticized the ever-increasing incidence of sexual harassment of women at the workplace and demanded urgent steps for its prevention.
Participating in a daylong workshop on ‘Prevention of Sexual Harassment of Women at Workplace and Educational Institutions’ organized by Magadh Mahila College, they observed that sexual harassment is a crime against women who are considered the most vulnerable section of the society.
Women are stalked, harassed and even raped due to laxity in implementation of laws and poor response to gender sensitization programmes.
Inaugurating the workshop, PU gender sensitization cell’s vice-president Poonam Singh called upon the women to be bold and fight against harassment. Activist Nivedita, physics teacher
Sumita Singh and education department teacher Monawwar Jahan also expressed their views on the problem.
PU social science faculty’s former dean N K Chaudhary also spoke on the occasion.
