Patna University honours 17 professors

PATNA: At least four retired and 13 serving teachers of different

Patna University

(PU) departments were honoured at a function organized at the Wheeler Senate House on the occasion of Teachers’ Day on Wednesday.

The retired teachers included L K Mishra (chemistry), Doris D’Souza (zoology), Amresh Pathak and Lekh Nath Mishra (Maithili). The serving teachers, who were felicitated on the occasion, were Kanak Verma (psychology), V K Lal (sociology), Bhrigunandan Tripathi (Hindi), Ila Sinha (English), Pashupati Nath (zoology), Radha Kant Prasad (chemistry), Punam Kumari (philosophy), G K Palei (mathematics), Sofia Nasreen (Persian), Hardwar Shukla and Shailendra Prasad (political science), Ashok Kumar Singh and Brahmanand Pandey (commerce).

Jain Vishva Bharati University’s (Rajasthan) former vice-chancellor (VC) Ramjee Singh, who was the chief guest at the function, called upon the teachers and the students to imbibe the philosophy of Sarvepalli Radhakrishnan in their lives and work for the development of the nation.

“Teachers must serve as intellectual leaders of the society they live in and act as role models for the youngsters,” Singh, who is a PU alumnus, said.

PU VC Rash Bihari Prasad Singh, in his presidential remarks, pointed out that Radhakrishnan had presented the real meaning of Indian philosophy and religion before the entire world.

“The former President said that the country’s future lied in the classrooms and that teachers alone could shape the future of students, the PU VC recalled.

At the outset, PU pro-VC Dolly Sinha welcomed the guests.

Patna College

political science teacher Deepti Kumari conducted the programme while registrar Manoj Mishra proposed the vote of thanks.
