Patna: Inquiry ordered in Dhanarua police firing that claimed youth’s life
PATNA:
As per sources, a few residents first had opened fire on police during the violence that broke out at Mauriyawa village (Dhanarua) when attempts were made to stop an unauthorised panchayat election campaign. It was after this that police had to open fire in self-defence.
The panchayat polling would take place there on Sunday. Police have refrained from making any immediate arrests at present due to it.
The role of injured Masaurhi circle inspector Ram Kumar Prasad (mistakenly quoted as Dhanarua circle inspector in Saturday’s report) is under suspicion before senior authorities in the entire violence for using unnecessary force.

When asked, Singh told TOI over phone that none of those including police personnel, if found guilty, would be spared and strict action would be taken against them including Sah. “We will provide all necessary support to the family of the victim,” he said.
The youth killed in alleged police firing is Rohit Choudhary (25). The injured are Bijendra Kumar (30), Neeraj Kumar (29) and Milan Kumar (30). They had sustained one bullet injury each and are undergoing treatment at PMCH.
All are natives of Mauriyawa village under the Dhanarua police station area in eastern Patna.
As per an internal preliminary official report, CI, Dhanarua SHO Raju Kumar, a constable, seven home guards, two special auxiliary police personnel and a chowkidar have sustained serious injuries in the violence. The CI has suffered a broken leg while the SHO and home guard have received grievous head injuries.
Police had opened fire ten rounds ‘in air’ to disperse the violent mob, as per the report.
Police sources said at least 15 rounds were fired by criminal elements amid the villagers when the clash took place with police.
DM said Masaurhi SDO Anil Kumar Sinha, being a competent authority, would be conducting the magisterial inquiry.
“Masaurhi SDO and SPDO have been directed to submit an initial report on the entire violence within 24 hours. Following it, a report would be submitted to the
Singh said that villagers have alleged that the CI used excessive force. “He threw himself into a matter which was to be handled by SHO,” he said.
DM said it has come to light that CI gathered force from three police stations and went into the village after a minor issue which was already sorted out by SDPO hours back.
Singh said he had formed a medical board that conducted a post-mortem in the presence of a magistrate at PMCH on Saturday.
“Entire process was also video recorded. The aggrieved family will be given all possible assistance,” DM said.
He said the panchayat election would be conducted peacefully in said areas as per schedule. Singh said that the present situation in the village was normal.
Patna SSP Upendra Kumar Sharma also went to the violence-marred village on Saturday morning.
He said that two FIRs – one by the slain youth’s family and another by police – would be lodged in the violence.
“No arrests have been made at present as panchayat polling would take place on Sunday. Action would be taken afterwards,” he added.
