Patna boy to play in world junior golf championship

City boy Aman Raj (17), a +2 student of Kendriya Vidyalaya, Bailey Road, left for Japan on Sunday to participate in 'Ryo Ishikawa World junior golf championship' to be held in Tokyo from August 1 to 7.

PATNA: City boy, Aman Raj (17), a +2 student of Kendriya Vidyalaya, Bailey Road, left for Japan on Sunday to participate in 'Ryo Ishikawa World junior golf championship' to be held in Tokyo from August 1 to 7. He is one of the five Indian team members selected for the event.
A function was organized on the Patna Golf Club premises here to wish Aman all success in the Japan event.

President of the club, Justice Samrendra Pratap Singh presented him a jacket. Several members of the club, including its honorary secretary Manik Vedsen and captain Arvind Singh, wished him all success in the tournament.
Aman plays under the guidance of his coach and father Shashi Raj Sinha. Earlier, Aman had represented Indian junior golf team and participated in the Asian junior golf championship in Malaysia.
Aman had started practising golf at the age of 3 under the guidance of his father, who is a certified coach of the National Golf Academy of India (NGAI), Chandigarh. He participated in several national junior tournaments in Delhi, Kolkata, Bangalore & Mumbai at the age of 10. Aman was adjudged the club's youngest 'golfer of the year' at the age of 12 and he earned the title again at the age of 14.
Having played in several national junior golf tournaments, Aman got the national-level ranking (9th at Delhi and 8th at Kolkata). He had also participated in the International Asia Pacific Junior Golf Championship at Bangalore and ranked 6th on the national merit list in 2009-2010.
"I am very happy that Aman is participating in an international championship and making us and state proud," said his golfer mother Madhulika Sinha. "I am sure he will do well," Sinha told TOI.
