Patna: The Patliputra University (PPU) has decided to hold its first convocation for the post-graduate (PG) and undergraduate (UG) students who have passed out from the university, sometime in September. The decision was taken at the 13th syndicate meeting of the university held under the chairmanship of PPU VC Prof R K Singh at the university headquarters here on Wednesday.
According to PPU registrar Prof Jitendra Kumar, the syndicate members unanimously approved the proposal to hold the PPU’s first convocation.
He recalled that the PPU had come into existence in March 2018 after its bifurcation from the Magadh University (MU). Since then, the university has been carrying out its academic activities smoothly at its 25 constituent and two minority colleges.
Besides, the syndicate also approved the long-pending demand for confirmation of services of the non-teaching staff. Newly-appointed teachers’ services have bene confirmed while all those teachers of the university who have been on lien, have been granted permission for lien at the syndicate meeting, the registrar said, adding the university was facing difficulty in clearing the post-retirement benefits of all those non-teaching staff whose services were not confirmed in the university for one reason or another.
According to the registrar, sanction of maternity and paternity leave was a major issue before the university authorities. In addition, child care leave was also an issue. The syndicate members approved them as per the newly-laid rules and directives of the UGC and the state government, he said, adding the syndicate had decided to give one more chance to those newly-appointed non-matric staff on compassionate ground to clear matric examination to ameliorate their lot.
The syndicate approved the requests for leave of all those PPU teachers who have either gone for higher studies or joined research work in other universities across the country. Besides, the VC announced at the meeting that all possible efforts were being made to regularize academic session of the university by clearing backlog of examinations at the PG and UG level. The PPU has set the deadline to hold examinations and declare results in time to benefit students, Prof Kumar said.
While PPU registrar conducted the meeting, former minister and syndicate member Neeraj Kumar, state higher education director Rekha Kumari, Arun Kumar, Prof A N Singh, Dr Deepika Gautam, Pratibha Singh, DSW Prof A N Nag, proctor Manoj Kumar, Prof Manimala, Prof Indrajeet Prasad Rai and Prof Meera Kumari attended the meeting.
