As per the daily

weather

bulletin issued by the meteorological centre, Patna, Bhagalpur and Gaya received 3.4mm, 12.1mm and 4mm rainfall on Thursday. The rainy weather also led to a plunge in the mercury column. While the maximum temperature dropped from 24 degrees Celsius on Wednesday to 21.5 degrees C on Thursday, the minimum temperature plunged from 16.2 degrees C on Wednesday to 14.5 degrees C on Thursday.

Weathermen attributed the rainy weather to

western disturbance

, a low pressure area or extra-tropical storm originating from the Mediterranean Sea, Red Sea and Caspian Sea. While moving eastward, it causes winter rainfall in the northwestern Indian subcontinent.

A Met official said, “Western disturbance is followed by a sharp dip in the mercury column along with formation of fog cover. We expect the minimum temperature to plunge below 10 degrees C. The maximum temperature may be in the range of 23 to 24 degrees C.”

The Patna Meteorological Centre has predicted the minimum temperature to plunge to 9 degrees Celsius by next Tuesday.
