Over Rs.2 crore fines collected from encroachers, traffic violators in city: DM
Patna: Over Rs2.25 crore was collected in fines from encroachers and traffic violators between April 2025 and Feb 16, 2026, during 212 days of anti-encroachment drives carried out in the city. The operations also led to the seizure of 1,402 carts, stalls and other temporary structures, district magistrate Thiyagarajan S M said at a review meeting on Thursday.
The DM instructed officials to remove obstructions from public spaces and warned that disciplinary and departmental action would be taken if re-encroachment occurs. He directed them to identify habitual offenders and lodge FIRs against them.
“The administration follows a strict policy against unauthorised occupations that hinder traffic and public movement on roads such as Nehru Path, JP Ganga Path and Ashok Rajpath. An urban management unit—comprising an additional district magistrate, three deputy superintendents of police and three town magistrates—has been tasked with these operations,” the DM said.
Officials were also told to distinguish between temporary and permanent encroachments. Temporary structures are to be removed immediately, while action against permanent ones must follow legal procedures within specified timelines, he added.
The DM further ordered strict enforcement of no-parking and no-vending zones, stressing that footpaths must remain accessible for pedestrians. The administration also plans to support enforcement with infrastructure projects, including foot overbridges, underpasses and road-widening works.
