Khagaria: As four assembly constituencies—Alauli (Reserved), Khagaria, Beldaur (formerly Chautham) and Parbatta—go to polls in the first phase of elections on Nov 6, district magistrate-cum-district election officer Navin Kumar said elaborate security arrangements have been made to ensure free and fair voting across the district.
He said 151 sector teams, 12 flying squads and several patrolling teams have been constituted constituency-wise to maintain law and order during the election period.
Superintendent of police (SP) Rakesh Kumar said station house officers (SHOs) of all police stations have been directed to execute pending non-bailable warrants under a special drive to ensure peaceful polling. He added that another drive has been launched to recover illicit arms and dismantle illegal liquor manufacturing units, while a strict vigil is being maintained in riverine and sensitive areas.
Altogether, 11,66,570 electors, including 5,50,547 women, will exercise their franchise at 1,372 polling stations across the district.
In the Alauli (Reserved) constituency, 2,66,465 electors, including 1,26,887 women, will cast their votes. Beldaur constituency has the highest number of voters—3,23,277, including 1,53,020 women, while Khagaria has the lowest—2,60,734 voters.
In Parbatta constituency, 3,16,094 voters, including 1,47,866 women, will elect their representative. There are also 6,342 voters from other categories, including service voters, persons with disabilities (PWDs) and senior citizens.
