Patna: Bihar minister for prohibition and excise, Ratnesh Sada, suffered injuries when a speeding autorickshaw hit him from behind while he went out for a morning walk at his ancestral village, Balia-Simar, in Saharsa district on Wednesday. His brother and a bodyguard were also injured in the accident. The driver has been arrested and his vehicle seized.
Sada, who reached his ancestral village on Tuesday evening to celebrate New Year with family and villagers, said, "I was taking a morning stroll when an autorickshaw hit me. I am completely fine now," the minister told reporters later in the day.
He, along with the other injured people, was taken to the local sadar hospital after the accident. They were discharged soon after primary medical aid.
One of the minister's aides said the driver apparently lost his balance due to severe cold and hit the minister. Local Mahishi police station SHO Amarnath Kumar said they were investigating the case.
Sada hit the headlines when he recently announced plans to impose the Crime Control Act on those involved in illicit liquor trade, besides confiscating their ill-gotten wealth. Bihar enforced a total liquor ban nine years back in 2016.
