PATNA: Opposition members led by RJD’s Raghvendra Pratap Singh and Samrat Chaudhury walked out of Bihar legislative assembly on Friday after trying to stall the proceedings of the House demanding adjournment of the sitting to discuss police action against the agitating contract teachers here on March 5. Speaker Uday Narayan Chaudhury, however, did not agree and suggested a two-hour special debate on the issue.
Wearing black headgear, the RJD members shouted slogans against the government and entered the well of the House. Parliamentary affairs minister Bijendra Prasad Yadav said since the matter was pending before the Supreme Court, the assembly cannot discuss the subject.
Raghvendra Pratap Singh said the teachers had been implicated in false cases and booked under different sections of IPC under which they cannot get bail. They were assaulted brutally and no action was taken against the policemen, he aleged.
Water resources minister Vijay Kumar Chaudhury informed the House that the government would get the accused of Khagaria violence of September 27, 2012, punished on the recommendations of the Special Investigation Team (SIT) which probed the incident. On that day, a mob had attacked the senior officers accompanying the chief minister during his Adhikar Yatra. He alleged it was a well-planned attack as he himself accompanied the CM. Chaudhury also assured action against the teachers and students who had attacked the Patna residence of JD-U MLA from Kargahar, Ramdhani Singh on Thursday. The minister said the government has taken cognizance of the ransom call made by an RJD leader to an engineer at Ara on Thursday.
