Patna: Despite elaborate arrangements by the Patna University (PU) administration for filing nominations for the Feb 28 PUSU elections, only one candidate submitted papers on Monday, even though 336 nomination forms had been purchased by the contestants.Voting for 27 posts, including five key office-bearers and 22 council members, will take place later this month.
PU chief election officer Shankar Kumar told the newspaper that nomination papers can be filed for two more days, on Tuesday and Wednesday. The scrutiny of nominations will take place on March 20 and the withdrawal of candidature will take place on Feb 19. The polling will be held at 42 booths in 14 zones from 8am to 2pm on Feb 28. Counting of votes will be held just after the polling is over and the results are likely to be announced late in the night.
Student organisations having allegiance to different political parties have already decided to enter the election arena by fielding their candidate on key posts. They have started canvassing to garner the electorate’s support for their candidates.
A presidential debate has been organised at 1pm on Feb 25 at Patna Women’s College. All the contestants for the post of PUSU president will be presenting their agenda at the meeting. It may be mentioned here that PWC has the largest number of voters.
