One arrested in Muzaffarpur gang rape case

Patna: A youth was arrested in Muzaffarpur district on Thursday in connection with the gang rape of a 15-year-old girl. The survivor was allegedly abducted by two youths on April 22 afternoon and taken to a nearby orchard, where the crime was committed. A complaint was lodged later the same night, following which one of the accused was arrested.

According to the FIR, the incident occurred when the girl was returning home from school. The two accused, residents of her village, allegedly lured her onto a motorcycle on the pretext of a ride and took her to a secluded location, where they raped her. After reaching home, the survivor informed her mother, following which the family approached the police.

Muzaffarpur (West) DSP Suchitra Kumari confirmed the incident, stating that an FIR was registered based on the survivor’s statement and the complaint filed by her family. “A police team was constituted immediately after registration of the case, and during raids, one of the accused was arrested,” she said.

The DSP added that raids are underway to arrest the second accused, who is absconding. Both accused were neighbours of the survivor and known to her. The girl has been sent to a hospital for medical examination and treatment.
