One arrested for attack on volleyball player

Begusarai: A joint team of the state STF and Begusarai police on Thursday arrested one Murari Kumar from Assam in connection with the shooting of national-level volleyball player Govind Kumar (20). Govind was shot at by bike-borne criminals on G D College road in Mirganj while heading for practice and remains critical at a Patna hospital.

SDPO Anand Kumar Pandey said the attack arose from a dispute involving a love affair. “One Bhupendra Kumar had hired criminals to eliminate Govind,” he said, adding the contract was worth Rs 5 lakh. Police identified four accused, of whom three remain absconding.
