Now, Sudha's cholesterol-free ghee

Patna: Here's some good news for people suffering from hypertension, diabetes and heart diseases: The Bihar State Milk Cooperative Federation Ltd (Comfed) will soon launch cholesterol-free ghee under its famous brand name 'Sudha'.

"The cholesterol-free ghee should hit the market across Bihar by this Durga Puja. Its one-litre pack will cost Rs 30 more than the general Sudha ghee," Comfed MD Seema Tripathi said.

Sudha general ghee is currently sold at Rs 350 per litre in Patna. "Besides cholesterol-free ghee, the Comfed is also going to launch a multi-nutrient drink, 'Bal Sudha', for malnourished children. We also plan to launch packs of 'Makhana-kheer' and ready-to-eat mix of 'dahi-dhura'," said N Vijayaluxmi, secretary of the animal and fisheries resources department under which Comfed works, while talking to reporters along with department minister Awadesh Kumar Singh.

'Bal Sudha', Tripathi said, would be a mix of milk, peanut, vitamins and minerals in a small tetra-pack to be distributed among the malnourished children initially only through government-run Anganbari centres in three select districts on a pilot basis. "We have prepared the mix of 'Bal Sudha' at the request of the state's social welfare department and initially it will be distributed only among the identified "severe and acute malnourished" children of Anganbari centres," the Comfed MD said.

She said, 'Bal Sudha' would be a course of 56 days and it, as per the social welfare department's plan, would be distributed among 2,100 SAM children in Purnia in the initial phase of pilot project.

After Purnia, 'Bal Sudha' would be distributed in Begusarai and one more district, she said. Asked about the launch date of 'Makhana-kheer' and "dahi-chura', Tripathi said the two products were in trial phase.
