NOU convocation: 21 gold medals to be awarded to girl students

Once again girls have outsmarted boys in the Nalanda Open University (NOU) exams of 2015. Of the 28 gold medals, at least 21 will be awarded to girls at the tenth annual convocation of the university at S K Memorial Hall on July 30.

Patna: Once again girls have outsmarted boys in the Nalanda Open University (NOU) exams of 2015. Of the 28 gold medals, at least 21 will be awarded to girls at the tenth annual convocation of the university at S K Memorial Hall on July 30. The toppers of postgraduate (PG) courses, who will receive the gold medals from governor-cum-chancellor Ram Nath Kovind, include Swabhuti (economics), Rajesh Kumar (geography), Lucy Kumari (Hindi), Anju Singh (Magahi), Prabha Kumari (history), Nusrat Yasmin (political science), Priyanka Kumari (psychology), Shanti Kishori Singh (sociology), Tanwi Sinha (MJMC), Nidhi Nupur (public administration), Soni Kumari and Bably Kumari (rural development), Rashmi Rati (commerce), Dileish Kumar (Bhojpuri), Huma Rohatgi (education), Md Shahzad (Urdu), Raj Kishore Yadav (chemistry), Neha Bharti (botany), Kotaiba (zoology), Pragya Upadhyaya (physics), Faheem Ahmad (mathematics), Ravi Shankar (environmental science), Anuradha Kumari (Sanskrit), Tapan Kumar (Maithili), Sumbul Perween (MCA) and Aradhana Kumari (MLIS).

NOU registrar S P Sinha said, “While Sumbul Perween will receive a gold medal for scoring the highest marks in the PG exams, Sweta Srivastava will get one for securing the highest marks in the UG examinations. Of all the gold medals, nine have been donated to the university by individuals like Ram Surat Sharma gold medal, Sulabh gold medal, Haridwar Pandey gold medal, Amar Nath Pandey gold medal, Jasbir Kaur gold medal, R S Gandhi gold medal, Brij Chandrika gold medal, Sumitra Sinha and Rajendra Prasad Singh memorial gold medal.”
At least 22,000 scholars, including 14,000 postgraduates, are likely to be conferred upon with their degrees at the convocation. Approximately 40% of the degree recipients are girls.
UGC chairman Ved Prakash has been invited to deliver the convocation address.
PU convocation: Patna University (PU) will hold its next convocation on August 20 after a gap of several years. At least 1000 scholars, including PhD and PG examination passouts, will receive their coveted degrees at the convocation at S K Memorial Hall.
PU examination controller R K Mandal said, “Scholars whose examination results were declared by December 2014 will get degrees and the toppers of different courses will be awarded gold medals at the convocation.”
Maharashtra governor C Vidyasagar Rao will be the chief guest and chancellor Ram Nath Kovind will preside.
