Patna: At least 600 retired teachers of Patliputra University (PPU) have not been getting their pension since November last year.
“Some of the retired teachers are in their late 70s and they are fully dependent on monthly pension for medical expenses. Non-payment of pension for the past four months has forced them to take loan for survival,” said R K Srivastava, a retired teacher of PPU-affiliated B D College, Patna.
Several retired teachers told TOI that they met state higher education director Rekha Kumari twice to discuss the matter, but to no avail.
According to sources, the state government was unable to release pension money to five universities – PPU, JP University-Chhapra , B N Mandal University-Madhepura , K S D S University-Darbhanga and Purnea University – due to “technical reasons”. The government has now released the required pension money, sources added.
