Bihar: ‘No drinking water crisis in Gaya now’

to the residents of urban as well as rural areas amid intense heat.

"In Gaya, the underground water table was at 40.2feet below the ground level in 2019 and it has now surged to 25.13feet. In Manpur block, the water table was at 44feet in 2019, which has risen to 29 feet. Similarly, in

block, the improved water table is at 26.14 feet in comparison to 40.21 feet in 2019,” said

The DM attributed the improvement in water table to proper implementation of the

Jal-Jeevan-

Hariyali pilot project in the district. "Under the project, renovation of traditional water bodies has been done, with proper arrangements for rain water harvesting. These efforts have helped the underground water table to improve a lot," the DM said.

The DM has also set up a control room on the collectorate premises to monitor water supply in the affected areas. “So far, 477 water related complaints have been registered at the control room, out of which 437 have been disposed,” Thiyagarajan said.

As part of advance planning to collect inputs about water availability in urban as well as rural areas, government schools in the district were surveyed.

"During survey of rural wards, it was found that 225 schemes were affected due to petty issues. Work on the schemes has been expedited after getting the issues rectified. Meetings are being held with block level officials and the public representatives to get inputs about water related problems. As many as 485 hand pumps were found defunct in government schools, out of which 289 were repaired. Remaining defunct hand pumps are being repaired at war footing," the DM said.
