He said that the Patna police has filed a petition in a local court for taking Sri Ram Kumar Gope alias Ram Gope, a local ward councillor, on police remand as the deceased's family members have alleged that Vijay was eliminated at the behest of Ram. The local police have also procured warrants against the named accused, who are evading arrest.
Brother of a Patna City-based gangster Deena Gope, Vijay was gunned down by three armed men near Gauri Das ki Bhatti when he was returning to his residence after purchasing vegetables at around 7 am on Friday.
The killing sparked off violent clashes between the locals and policemen with the local residents attacking the Malsalami police station and pelted it and the cops with stones.
Police had to fire three rounds in the air to disperse the rampaging mob. The situation was brought under control after senior police officials, including the Patna SSP, city SP Manu Maharaj and Patna City SDPO Sunil Kumar rushed to Malsalami with additional reinforcement.
Meanwhile, police sources revealed that massive raids were carried out at possible hideouts of criminals in entire Patna City sub-division on Friday night for arrest of those involved in the murder of Vijay. "We are on the job and raids were carried out at 10 suspected places for the arrest of the assailants. Four suspects were picked up late on Friday night for interrogation," revealed a police officer involved in the night-long raids.
