Nitish to officials: Expedite JP Ganga Path work up to Gaighat

Patna: CM Nitish Kumar on Wednesday made an on-the-spot inspection of ongoing construction work of the JP Ganga Path, popularly known as Patna Marine Drive, near Gaighat in the state capital and asked the road construction department (RCD) officials to complete the works at a faster pace.It was the CM’s third inspection of the JP Ganga Path after April 30 and May 15 this year.After taking the stock of progress, he asked the officials to ensure a better connectivity of the JP Ganga Path with the Mahatma Gandhi Setu near Gaighat, so that people can easily travel towards Hajipur and other places in north Bihar. The CM later went up to the connectivity point of old NH-19 (Ghazipur -Hajipur national highway) near Sonepur through the JP Setu and took stock of the progress in the road works. Nitish said the JP Ganga Path has been given a connectivity with the old NH-19 (Ghazipur-Hajipur national highway) near Bakarpur, through the JP Setu so that people can easily go towards Chhapra, Siwan and Gopalganj from Patna. He said it would be another easy road for going to Hajipur and other towns of north Bihar through the JP Setu.During the CM’s previous inspection on April 30, additional chief secretary (RCD) Pratyaya Amrit had assured Nitish to complete the construction work of the JP Ganga Path up to Gaighat by June this year. On Wednesday, Pratyaya told the CM that the construction works up to Gaighat would be completed very soon. The JP Ganga Path, which ground-breaking ceremony was held on October 11, 2013, was planned mainly to ensure a smooth flow of traffic between east and west Patna and to ease the traffic congestion on the Ashok Rajpath. The project is expected to give breath to the heavily congested roads of east to west Patna. The first phase of the Ganga Path was open to the public on June 24 last year.
