Nitish, Sushil Kumar Modi should quit: Rabri Devi

PATNA: The monsoon session of Bihar legislative council began on a stormy note on Tuesday with opposition parties cornering the government over Bhagalpur funds scam and loss of many lives in floods.

Former chief minister

Rabri Devi

said the RJD would not let the House function till chief minister Nitish Kumar and his deputy Sushil Kumar Modi tender their resignations.

As soon as the council sat for the day, Congress

MLC Dilip Choudhary

demanded immediate discussion on loss of life and property in floods. He criticised the government for failing to tackle the natural calamity and presenting wrong data. “The death figures provided by disaster management department are totally wrong,”

Choudhary

said. He also criticised Prime Minister

Narendar Modi

for not visiting the flood-affected regions of Bihar.

After Choudhary’s attack, it was Rabri’s turn to slam the government over Bhagalpur funds scam. She was seconded by RJD MLC Subodh Rai who said the scam was not confined to Bhagalpur alone, but has links in several other districts as well. He too demanded immediate resignation of the CM and his deputy.

As the RJD and Congress MLCs stormed into the well shouting slogans, the council was adjourned till 1pm. Ruckus continued when the House resumed its session.

The deputy CM, on his part, said the departments concerned were trying hard to help flood victims. “Altogether 28 NDRF and 16 SDRF teams are at work along with Army personnel. Over 280 motorboats are being used to rescue the trapped people,” he informed the House.

Modi said each affected family will be given Rs 6,000. “Halogen tablets, ORS and food packets are being distributed among the affected persons. Over four lakh people have been accommodated in relief camps and five lakh others are being served cooked food at community kitchens,” he added.
