Nishant pays tribute to ex-MLA Satish Kumar
Patna: Nishant Kumar on Tuesday visited Kankarbagh residence of former three-time MLA Satish Kumar and paid floral tributes to his mortal remains. Satish had passed away earlier in the day due to a brain haemorrhage and was undergoing treatment at a private hospital in the city.
Satish was first elected from Surajgarha constituency in 1990 on a CPI ticket. He was later elected twice from Asthawan. He also unsuccessfully contested a parliamentary election. Satish had played a key role in mobilising Kurmi voters from the OBC community against then CM Lalu Prasad.
He also met members of the bereaved family.
Earlier, CM Nitish Kumar paid tributes to Satish, describing him as an able politician and dedicated social worker whose death was an irreparable loss to the political and social sphere. He also prayed for peace to the departed soul and strength for the bereaved family.
More than three decades ago, Satish had organised the massive Kurmi Chetna Rally at Gandhi Maidan in 1994, where Nitish was the main speaker. The rally is widely seen as the starting point of Nitish’s political rebellion against Lalu, which eventually led to the formation of the Samata Party later that year.
Observers also note a coincidence: Nishant, who has recently been inducted into the JD(U), has announced plans to tour districts across Bihar in the coming days.
