PATNA: The long arms of the law that stopped short of politicians in the past are fast catching up with this breed of lawbreakers. In the ongoing elections, candidates and political bigwigs are being routinely hauled up and put behind bars. Some are even thrashed. Candidates have never seen such elections before. Never before have they had to sit out and watch polling from a distance.
As in the first and second rounds of the polls, several candidates were arrested on Sunday. As many as 11 nominees have been arrested till now.
But what perhaps set the precedence was the arrest of the RJD candidate from Jamui, Vijay Prakash. He was not only booked but also given a sound thrashing in full public view. Till now, two Union ministers Jai Prakash Narain Yadav and M A A Fatmi have had cases lodged against them. Another minister Mohd Taslimuddin was debarred from entering his hometown Kishanganj. On Sunday, six candidates were arrested. While JD(U)'s Sahebganj nominee Raju Kumar Singh was booked for moving around with arms, amunition and cash, BSP's Ramnagar candidate Prabhat Ranjan Singh was arrested for driving around his constituency.
