NDA counters opposition yatras with booth push
Patna: State BJP president Dilip Kumar Jaiswal and JD(U) state president Umesh Singh Kushwaha on Friday said the NDA in Bihar had launched a massive exercise to mobilise booth-level workers across all constituencies to counter the “yatras and roadshows” of the opposition. They stressed that this mobilisation was aimed at ensuring “rock-solid unity” at the grassroots ahead of the Oct-Nov assembly elections.
Both leaders asserted that the NDA would go to the polls under the leadership of PM Narendra Modi and CM Nitish Kumar, united down to the booth level, and defeat the INDIA bloc on the strength of its development agenda. They dismissed the yatras and roadshows of the opposition as mere theatrics.
“The booth-level conference of NDA workers at assembly constituencies is a gigantic task that we have undertaken, and it has been showing results. The response has been tremendous. There is rock-solid unity among NDA workers at the grassroots level,” Jaiswal told reporters after an internal review of the ongoing conferences.
He contrasted the NDA’s exercise with the opposition’s campaign. “Organising yatras and roadshows is easy work compared to mobilising booth-level workers through constituency-level conferences. Development is our main plank to counter the confusion created by the opposition,” he said.
Jaiswal pointed to CM Nitish Kumar’s approach during his Pragati Yatra earlier this year. “The CM set a model by announcing projects for every district, getting them approved in cabinet meetings, and then laying the foundation stones. It is something that has not been done anywhere,” he said, adding that the NDA would contest the elections under the leadership of PM Modi and CM Kumar.
The BJP chief also detailed the progress of the exercise. “The first phase was conducted from Aug 23 to Aug 25, covering 31 assembly constituencies. The second phase from Aug 28 to Aug 30 saw conferences in 38 constituencies. Nine will be covered in the third phase, 69 in the fourth, and 68 in the fifth,” he said.
Kushwaha added, “In all, the conferences will be held in all the 243 assembly constituencies by the middle of this month.”
The INDIA bloc’s recent fortnight-long yatras, led by Congress’s Rahul Gandhi and RJD’s Tejashwi Prasad Yadav, had focused on protecting voters’ rights and the Constitution, while also raising local demands. But NDA leaders insisted the people would ultimately judge on development.
