jamshedpur: two rashtriya janata dal (rjd) supporters were seriously wounded after suspected maoist coordination committee (mcc) extremist opened fire on their car in the wee hours of monday. the rjd workers were ambushed near bundu in ranchi district on the tata-ranchi highway. they were returning to the steel city, after receiving their leader and bihar strongman laloo prasad yadav at ranchi.

the injured, shambhu prasad, 29, and maninder singh, 29, have been admitted to the tata main hospital here. singh has sustained bullet injury in the abdomen, while prasad got wounded in his right hand. singh's condition was reported to be critical. about a dozen ultras sprayed bullets on our car soon after we entered to the bundu ghati, prasad said and added: all of them were dressed in police uniform. we had slowed our vehicle thinking them to be policemen, but they started to fire indiscriminately.before the attack on the rjd workers, the outlawed extremist outfit reportedly fired on a speeding passenger bus at bundu on the national highway. no one, however, was to be injured. the extremists had reportedly fired two shots, one of which pierced through the metal frame of the bus. the state government had sounded a general alert in the bundu area in wake of the monday's state-wide band called by the mcc. bundu is said to be a stronghold of the mcc. the police also had intensified patrolling in the area. we came across two police patrols outside the danger area. they were not at all helpful. in fact, one of the bullet proof vehicle had flat tyre, another rjd supporter prem singh said. the rjd supporters claimed that they also went to the bundu police station for help. the police refused to escort the two injured men to the nearest hospital in ranchi. the police only offered to escort us out of bundu, singh said. the injured men eventually had to leave for jamshedpur, with just a written note by police requesting to provide treatment to the duo wounded by the mcc.
