GAYA: Regional deputy director of education Kalyani Kumari will be the state government nominee in the seven-member selection committee constituted to appoint 22 principals for the constituent colleges under Magadh University (MU). Warisaliganj College, Nawada, principal Satya Narain Singh will also be there in the selection committee by virtue of being the senior most principal.
MU VC Mohd Ishtiaq is the ex-officio chairman of the committee.
Baleshwar Paswan is the chancellor’s nominee.
When contacted, VC Ishtiaq said the stage is set for the appointment of 22 principals. Though the posts were advertised in 2008, the appointments have not yet taken a final shape as the recruitment earlier made by the then VCs B N Pandey and
Arun Kumar were quashed by the court on ground of impropriety and violation of the provisions of the Bihar Universities Act, statutes and executive orders.
Refusing to disclose the identity of the three experts, the VC said only persons of distinguished academic background and integrity will be there on the selection committee.
While quashing the second round appointments in September 2013, the Patna high court held that the appointment process stood vitiated as the University Academic Council abdicated its responsibility and authorized the VC to recommend to himself the panel of names for the nomination of the experts.
Moreover, the court observed that another anomalies pertained to the superseding of six senior principals to accommodate Srikant Sharma who figured at the seventh slot in the seniority list of the MU principals and the apparent pattern in awarding disproportionately high marks at the interview to the candidates with inferior academic record and vice versa.
The seven-year-long wait for MU principal post aspirants has already taken its toll as 21 of the 351 applicants have either died or reached the age of superannuation.
