‘My name missing from draft list’: Tejashwi Yadav questions EC, asks ‘how will I contest polls?’; EC refutes claim
PATNA: RJD leader Tejashwi Prasad Yadav on Saturday said his name is not in the draft voter list released by the Election Commission of India on Friday.
Addressing a press conference in Patna, Tejashwi said he had filled up the enumeration form during the special intensive revision of the electoral rolls in Bihar.
“How will I contest the upcoming assembly elections?” he asked.
He alleged that no data was found after searching his name through EPIC number. He added that the Booth Level Officer (BLO) had personally collected his filled-in form, yet his name did not appear in the list.
"Almost 20 to 30 thousand names have been removed from every assembly constituency. A total of around 65 lakh, meaning about 8.5% of voters' names, have been removed from the list. Whenever the Election Commission issued an advertisement, it used to mention that so many people have shifted, so many people are deceased, and so many people had duplicate names," Tejashwi said.
"But in the list provided to us by the Election Commission, they have cleverly not given the address of any voter, no booth number, and no EPIC number, so that we cannot find out whose names have been removed from the voter list," he added.
Election Commission denies claim
However, responding to the allegations, the Election Commission of India said Tejashwi Yadav’s name is present in the draft voter list. The Commission also released a copy of the list with his name to counter his claim.
The Commission said his name appears with serial number 416, house number 10 and EPIC number RABO456228.
According to the EC, Tejashwi may have searched using his old EPIC number, which is why he couldn’t locate his details.Get the latest lifestyle updates on Times of India, along with Friendship Day wishes, messages and quotes !
