Muzaffarpur SSP sets up three teams to probe double murder case
MUZAFFARPUR: Muzaffarpur senior superintendent of police Jayant Kant has set up three investigating teams to probe the murder of a 65-year-old retired senior excise official Ajay Kumar Sharma and his wife Renu.
The duo were found bludgeoned to death in their house at Gyan Lok Colony in Muzaffarpur town on Wednesday afternoon. Sharma had retired as assistant inspector general from the state prohibition and excise department five years ago.
“The teams will be headed by SP (city) PK Mandal, DSP (city) R N Paswan and DSP (west) Krishna Murari Prasad. They will probe the matter from different angles. Even the forensic science laboratory and electronic surveillance cell have been asked to cooperate in getting every detail needed by the investigating teams,” the SSP said.
He added: “We are still waiting for the family members of Sharma to lodge a formal police complaint. This will help us to focus on our line of action. Though some valuables have been stolen from the house, the way the crime was committed tells a different story other than loot or dacoity,” he said.
Meanwhile, a senior police officer and a member of the investigating team told this newspaper on condition of anonymity that some burnt papers have been found from the main entrance of the house. “It shows that they were killed for those papers, considered to be important for the miscreants. Even some circumstantial evidences also hint at some insider,” he said.
Brahmapura police station SHO Bishwanath Ram said, “The postmortem report of Sharma couple suggests that they were killed nearly 14 to 24 hours before from the time of autopsy.”
It may be mentioned here that the SP (city) along with DSP R N Paswan and SHO of Brahmapura police station had reached the spot around 1.30 pm after being informed by the Ajay’s elder brother Saroj Kumar Sharma, who is a lawyer at the local civil court.
