Mutilated body of woman recovered from sack thrown in ditch
Begusarai: Police recovered the mutilated body of a 35-year-old woman from a sack thrown in a ditch at Sitarampur diara under Matihani police station in Begusarai district on Saturday evening. The body was identified as that of one Sita Devi, a resident of Sitarampur village. Sita's husband Jungi Mahto on Sunday accused their neighbour of murdering her for revenge. "About two months ago, my neighbour Tabbu Devi was punished by the local panchayat and asked to lick my wife's sputum in full public view for making false allegations against her. Tabbu had alleged that Sita was in an illicit relationship with her husband Shankar Mistry. Following the public humiliation, Tabbu and her husband had threatened us of dire consequences," he said. Sita, a mother of four children, had gone missing on December 9. Mahto said that on the day, when he returned home from fields, he found the children distraught as their mother had been missing since the afternoon. "I searched for her all through the night, but after failing to locate her, I filed a missing complaint with the local police the next day. I even had expressed my fear of her being eliminated by Shankar and his wife," he said. On Saturday evening, police recovered the naked body of Sita packed in the sack stashed with bricks and stones after a few local residents complained of bad odour from the ditch. The body was mutilated to such an extent that the local sadar hospital had to send it to Darbhanga Medical College and Hospital for carrying out the postmortem. Begusarai Sadar subdivisional police officer-II Bhaskar Ranjan on Sunday said that Sita was the second wife of Mahto. "Police are investigating all aspects of the case. We hope to crack the case soon," he said.
