PATNA: An irate mob blocked the Ashok Raj Path at Paschim Darwaza in Patna City subdivision on Saturday for over four hours to protest the insensitivity of Khajekallan police in arresting one Sonu, an accused in the Rizwan murder case. They were also demanding immediate suspension of the officer in-charge concerned. It may be mentioned here that a cellphone mechanic, Rizwan, a resident of Unt Ki Maidan locality under the Khajekallan police station, went missing under mysterious circumstances after he left his home on July 12.
When the family members failed to locate him, they lodged a missing complaint with the police station concerned.
On August 1, the Khajekallan police arrested one Kundan Kumar, who admitted before the police that one of Rizwan's friends, Sonu alias Avinash Kumar, a resident of Fatuha, had eliminated Rizwan and disposed of his body in the Ganga. Though the police and the family members launched a search for the victim's body, they failed to located it.Peeved over the police's insensitivity over delay in Sonu's arrest, the residents blocked the Ashok Raj Path on Saturday morning by placing bamboo sticks and burning tyres at different points on the road to paralyse vehicular movement. They were carrying placards with slogans against the Khajekallan police and demanded immediate suspension of the officer in-charge. One of the deceased's relatives said that though they had lodged a complaint with the police on July 12, the cops failed to trace the whereabouts of Rizwan even after 23 days. On getting information, City SP Anwar Hussain and the SDPO (Patna City) visited the spot and tried to pacify the residents. The blockade was later lifted after the intervention of the City SP.
