Mob attacks police teams during raids in Patna
Patna: Mob attacked a five-member anti-narcotics team in Buddha Colony police station area and a police team in Ranitalab police station area in the state capital on Tuesday.
In the first incident, the team of anti-narcotics officers was attacked in the Buddha Colony area while they were conducting a raid. Based on a tip-off, the team was searching a drug peddler. As soon as they reached the place, they were attacked with stones and rods. Two officers were injured in the incident.
ASP (law and order-I), Krishna Murari Prasad, said: “The anti-narcotics officers were attacked at Chinakothi under Buddha Colony police station area. The officers were surrounded by the crowd. Fortunately, the police from Buddha Colony police station reached the spot on time. After this, the team somehow managed to get out from there with Aakash Dhangar, the accused drug peddler, who has a criminal history. Earlier, Aakash and his wife were sent to jail on charges of selling drugs.” Strict action will be taken against those responsible, the ASP added.
In the second incident, the sand mafia and their supporters attacked a police team while it was conducting a raid on an illegal sand mining operation in Patna’s Dhanraj Chapra village. The miscreants pelted stones at the police and damaged their vehicles. In self-defence, the police fired several rounds in the air to disperse the attackers. Additional police forces were called in, and the village was cordoned off. A search operation is underway to arrest those involved in the attack and illegal mining.
Ranitalab SHO, Manish Kumar Ranjan, said: “Additional police force was called and the village was cordoned off. A search operation is underway to arrest those involved in the attack and the illegal mining. Police recovered 24 empty cartridges, a sword, arms, four motorcycles, and four tractors from the place. A case has been registered and investigation is underway.”
