Patna: The body of a 20-year-old girl with her clothes torn was found in a maize field under the Sakra police station in Muzaffarpur district on Monday. The victim, who was upset over her poor performance in the Bihar board Intermediate examination, went missing after leaving her home around 5pm on Sunday.
According to police, locals noticed the body with a dupatta tied around her neck and alerted the police. The family has suspected foul play, alleging she was raped and murdered elsewhere before the body was dumped in the field. The body was sent to Shri Krishna Memorial College Hospital (SKMCH) for autopsy.
Muzaffarpur East SDPO-2 Manoj Kumar Singh said the forensic team collected samples from the spot. “Prima facie, it appears the woman was killed at some other place and the body was dumped in the maize field. A dupatta was found tied around her neck. The exact cause of death will be known after getting the autopsy report,” he said.
Singh added that the body was handed over to the family after the post-mortem. A formal complaint has been lodged, but no named accused have been mentioned so far. “Her family members said she had left home around 5 pm on Sunday but did not return. She was upset over her poor performance in the board examination. Her cellphone analysis is underway as part of the investigation,” the SDPO said.
