Mines officers to get arms training

Patna: Following the attack on three mining officers, including two woman inspectors, by the henchmen of sand smugglers in Bihta block of Patna district on April 17, the state mines and geology department has decided to provide arms training and force commanding skills to its officers to prevent similar incidents in the future.
The department has also initiated the process of rewarding Ameya Kumari and Saiyad Farheen, the two woman officers, for handling the sand mining mafia bravely during the operation. “After the Bihta incident, our department has decided to provide two-week arms training starting this month to 90 inspectors, including 30 woman officers, to counter such attacks in the future,” Harjot Kaur Bamhrah, additional chief secretary-cum-mines commissioner, told this newspaper on Friday.
The training will be conducted at the state prohibition, excise and registration department’s training centre.
“I am extremely impressed by the courage displayed by Ameya and Saiyad during the Bihta operation. They are the new faces of women in Bihar,” Bamhrah said.
To combat illegal sand mining, storage and transportation, the mines department is providing a specialized security force company in each of the five districts of Patna, Saran, Vaishali, Bhojpur, and Kaimur.
