Min: Saran farmers to get 75% of water released from Nepal soon

CHHAPRA: Come next farming season, the farmers of Saran district, who get less than half the water released from Nepal barrage, will get 75% of it as the state government is spending Rs 334 crore to provide them with proper irrigation facilities, stated water resources minister Sanjai Jha in Chapra on Wednesday.

“Chief minister Nitish Kumar is serious towards the problem concerning Maharajganj and Chhapra canals under Saran division. About 8,500 cusec of water is released through Nepal barrage but the farmers get only 3,400 cusec of water. Lining work on Chhapra and Maharajganj canals is underway on a 17-km stretch, which would provide the farmers with 75% of the water released from the Nepal barrage from the next season,” the minister said.
