Migrant worker’s murder case solved: Saharsa police
Patna: The Saharsa police on Monday claimed to solve the murder case of Rajesh Kumar, a 26-year-old man whose headless body was found near the Sursar River on Feb 11. The investigation revealed that Rajesh was murdered by his girlfriend's brother, who planned the crime with his friend.
According to police, Rajesh, a migrant worker of Bengaluru, was lured to Bihar with the promise of marrying his girlfriend. However, the girlfriend’s brother opposed the marriage and hatched a plot to kill Rajesh. On Feb 11, Darshan received Rajesh at Saharsa station and took him to a secluded spot near the river, where Birbal and others were waiting. They shot Rajesh in the chest, beheaded him, dumped his body in a field, and threw his head into the river. The investigation involved analysing Rajesh's cellphone call records, which led them to his girlfriend and subsequently to Birbal, the girlfriend’s brother, and his friend Darshan, who confessed to the crime. Birbal is still at large.
Simri Bakhtiyarpur SDPO Mukesh Thakur said, “During interrogation, Darshan revealed that he and Birbal worked together in a medical facility about 10 years ago, and their friendship led to the planning of the murder. He stated that Birbal instructed him to bring Rajesh to the secluded spot, where they would kill him.”
The police found Rajesh's headless body on Feb 11, and it was identified by his uncle on Feb 13. The investigation team, led by Saharsa SP Himanshu and SDPO Mukesh Thakur, circulated Rajesh's pictures on social media to identify him.
“The police suspect that Birbal's motive for the murder was to prevent his sister from marrying Rajesh, as he disapproved of their relationship. The investigation is going on, and authorities are working to apprehend Birbal and other suspects involved in the crime,” the SDPO added.
