PATNA: The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has predicted heavy rainfall in the north-western parts of the state on Tuesday even as the rest of the state continues to see hot and humid conditions.
"Monsoon will remain active in the north-western districts of the state. Patna may also receive a few spells of rain on Tuesday. Starting from Wednesday, the south-eastern parts of the state may receive some rainfall," said Anand Shanker, a scientist at the Patna Meteorological Centre.
Parts of the state recorded high maximum temperatures on Sunday, including Vaishali (37.7°C), Bhojpur (37.5°C), Bhagalpur (37°C), Buxar (36.8°C), Dehri (36.4°C) and Aurangabad (36.4°C). Meanwhile, Patna recorded a maximum temperature of 36.2°C.
"The southwest monsoon weakened in the state in the last 24 hours. Light to moderate rainfall occurred at only a few places in the state," said S K Suman, an official at Patna Meteorological Centre.
The monsoon trough line was passing through Jaisalmer, Kota, Guna, Sagar, Pendra Road, Jharsiguda, Balasore and then southeastwards to the northeast Bay of Bengal on Monday. Meanwhile, a cyclonic circulation over northwest Madhya Pradesh has continued to influence the weather system in Bihar.
Till September 11, the state received a total of 629.7mm of rainfall against the normal average of 858.9mm. As a result, the state has a rainfall deficiency of 27% so far this monsoon.
