Med aspirant dies by suicide in Rohtas
Sasaram: A 19-year-old medical aspirant died by suicide in Dehri-on-Sone under the Town police station area of Rohtas district on Friday noon, marking the second such tragedy involving a student in the region within 24 hours.
The deceased, Ankit Shekhar, was preparing for the NEET and had been living in the Ghantolia locality for the past three years while preparing for the examination. The incident came a day after a 22-year-old law student was found hanging in her university hostel in Jamuhar.
The incident occurred at the rented house of Raman Singh, where Ankit lived with his family. His father, Amit Kumar, works as a station master at Karwandiya railway station in the district and was in Patna at the time of the incident.
According to family members, Ankit’s mother, Meenakshi Verma, raised the alarm after she came out of the bathroom and found her son’s room locked from inside. Despite repeated calls, there was no response. Hearing her cries for help, neighbours rushed to the house, broke open the door and found the youth hanging from a ceiling fan.
He was immediately taken to a local hospital, where doctors declared him dead.
After receiving information, Town police station in-charge Shivendra Kumar sent a team from the district FSL to the spot. The team, led by district officer Prabhat Kumar, examined the room, recorded video evidence and seized Ankit’s mobile phone and tablet.
Preliminary investigation of his digital devices and belongings suggested that the student had been struggling with clinical depression and had been on medication for a long time.
Sub-inspector Anjali Tiwari said the body was sent to Sasaram for post-mortem examination while police continue to investigate the circumstances leading to the incident.
