PATNA: The two-day
Medical Council of India (MCI) inspection of Nalanda Medical College and Hospital (NMCH) concluded here on Wednesday with MCI members inspecting the preventive and social medicine (PSM) department and other non-clinical departments of the hospital.
The MCI team visited NMCH to review the permission granted by the MCI in 2009 to the NMCH to increase intake of MBBS students from 50 to 100.
MCI members Dr Ram Prakash from Delhi and Dr M Rehman and Dr Vikas Bose, both from Kolkata, visited the hospital premises on the second day of the inspection.
The team had earlier on Tuesday visited the Nalanda Medical College and took stock of the situation vis-a-vis basic infrastructure at the college.
The team led by Dr Prakash besides, looking into the presence of doctors also checked their papers and certificates regarding their educational qualification and work experience.
On Tuesday, the team had visited the hospital premises and reviewed the functioning of different departments and wards of NMCH, including department of surgery and medicine, besides, intensive care unit (ICU), emergency and blood bank located on NMCH campus.
NMCH principal C B Chowdhary said, "The visit assumes significance as the team would assess whether the NMCH fulfills the MCI norms for admitting 100 students in MBBS course during 2010-11 too." However, Chowdhary was hopeful that the college would be given permanent permission to increase number of MBBS seats to 100.
"The MCI in 2009-10 had granted NMCH temporary permission to increase the MBBS seats from the existing 50 to 100. Now the team has come to review the infrastructure for the 2010-11 session," said NMCH superintendent N P Yadav.
