Man held for impersonating IPS officer in Aurangabad

Aurangabad: Police arrested a man on Wednesday evening for allegedly impersonating an IPS officer to defraud people in Aurangabad district, and recovered photographs of him in police uniforms along with other incriminating evidence. He is in custody, and investigations are ongoing to uncover the full extent of his fraudulent activities, said a senior police official.

Superintendent of police (SP) Ambrish Rahul said that the police had received complaints about a person posing as an IPS officer and misleading senior officials and staff. Acting on this tip-off, a team from the Town police station located the suspect at Sachchidanand Sinha College. “When approached, the man claimed to be a trainee IPS officer and even scolded the police team using abusive language. His suspicious behaviour led officers to question him further. He identified himself as Ashish Kumar, allegedly from Narayanpur village in Bhojpur district,” Rahul said.

However, a check with the Narayanpur police station revealed no record of such a person. Further verification of his mobile number traced his actual residence to Karwa village under Mufassil police station in Bhojpur.

During interrogation, Ashish Kumar confessed to impersonating high-ranking officials to commit fraud. He admitted to previously posing as an Air Chief Marshal and deceiving several people. He also revealed that he had served jail time in Andhra Pradesh for a similar offense registered at Trimulgherry police station.
