Man beaten to death over passage blockade dispute in Muzaffarpur
Patna: A 27-year-old man was beaten to death at Manikpur village under Minapur police station area of Muzaffarpur district following a clash over the removal of a music trolley during a wedding function, police said on Sunday. The deceased was identified as Rahul Kumar (27), son of Vinod Sahni, a resident of the village. His body, bearing injury marks from head to toe, was found at a deserted spot outside the village.
According to police, a wedding was underway at the house of Jageshwar Sahni in Manikpur, with the baraat arriving from a nearby village. During the celebrations, guests from both sides were dancing on the road with a music trolley. Rahul, who was returning home on a tractor, asked the group to clear the road after his passage was blocked, leading to an argument. The dispute was reportedly pacified at that time.
However, Rahul’s father alleged that his son later stayed back to watch the ‘darwaza lagna’ ritual. After the ceremony, some people from the ‘baraat’ allegedly picked him up from the road and assaulted him. When Rahul did not return home late at night, the family began searching for him. His body was found the next morning.
Minapur police reached the spot, took the body into custody and sent it to Shri Krishna Medical College Hospital (SKMCH) for post-mortem. Family members were inconsolable as villagers gathered at the site.
Muzaffarpur SDPO (East) Alay Vats said evidence had been collected from the spot and the family had lodged a written complaint against unknown persons. “The accused are being identified and will be arrested soon,” he said.
